On June 27-28, 2019, Secretary of State Melania-Gabriela Ciot participates in the 8th edition of the Annual Forum of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), which takes place in Bucharest. It is the most important event under the current Romanian Presidency of the EUSDR and the last ample one organised under the auspices of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU ending on June 30, 2019.
The Romanian official opened the working sessions of the Forum with a welcome speech addressed to an audience of more than 1000 participants. In her address, she underlined the efforts that Romania made both to advance macro-regional strategies at European level and to promote the EUSDR at regional, national and local level, in order to ensure the territorial and socio-economic cohesion of the participating states.
The Secretary of State for European Affairs reiterated Romania’s political commitment to promoting the EUSDR, which was reconfirmed by the Member States’ consensus – obtained under the Romanian Council Presidency – for the adoption of the Council Conclusions on the Implementation of Macro-Regional Strategies.
Relaunching the Strategy for the Danube Region is the chief objective under the Romania’s mandate at the EUSDR, and the revision of the action plan is “a very important step in that direction”. In this context, Romania has fostered the discussions on including agriculture and aquaculture among the fields of interest in the region.
At the end of her address, the Secretary of State for European Affairs expressed her confidence that such platforms were an effective tool for identifying new development priorities, by ensuring a more efficient approach to the problems that the region is faced with.
