The EU-US Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial Meeting will take place at the Palace of the Parliament of Bucharest on June 19, 2019, under the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The EU-US dialogue on the external dimension of justice and home affairs is long-standing and organised every half year, under each Council Presidency.
This is the second EU-US meeting organised under the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU after the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) held in Bucharest on February 28, 2019.
Romania will chair the meeting, which will enjoy the participation of Ana BIRCHALL, Minister of Justice and Vice Prime Minister ad interim charged with the implementation of Romania’s strategic partnerships, of Carmen DAN, Minister of Internal Affairs and of George CIAMBA, Minister Delegate for European Affairs.
The European Union will be represented by the Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Věra Jourová, the Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos and the Commissioner for the Security Union Julian King. The European External Action Service, the General Secretariat of the Council, EUROPOL, EUROJUST, the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator and FRONTEX will also be represented in the meeting, on behalf of the European Union.
The justice session will include discussions focusing on judicial cooperation in cyberspace as well as the resilience of the electoral systems and will be chaired by Ana BIRCHALL, Minister of Justice and Vice Prime Minister ad interim charged with the implementation of Romania’s strategic partnerships.
This is the first ministerial meeting enjoying the participation of the US Attorney General William BARR, head of the US delegation, and of Acting Deputy Secretary for Homeland Security David PEKOSKE.
In its capacity as upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU and as an observer in the meeting, Finland will be represented by Maria OHISALO, Minister of Internal Affairs and by Anna-Maja HENRIKSSON, Minister of Justice.
On the margins of the EU-US justice and home affairs ministerial meeting, the Romanian Minister of Justice will hold bilateral meetings with the US Attorney General, the Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality and her Finnish counterpart.
