The Informal Meeting of the Ministers of Transport

JOINT SESSION ON

”New challenges for a better mobility and cohesion”

  1. GENERAL INFORMATION

In the context of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the informal meeting of the Ministers of Transport takes place on 26-27 March 2019, at the Palace of Parliament, in Bucharest.

Chaired by Mr. Alexandru Răzvan CUC, Minister of Transport of Romania, the meeting will be attended by ministers and deputy ministers of Transport of the Member States, alongside Mrs. Violeta Bulc, EU commissioner for Transport, Grațiela Leocadia Gavrilescu, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Environment, Matthew Baldwin, European Coordinator for Road Safety, Carlo Secchi, TEN-T European Coordinator and others.

The event will start on the 26th of March, with a Gala Dinner for the official delegations at the former Royal Palace in Bucharest.

On Wednesday, the 27th of March, the ministers of Transport of the Member States will gather at the Palace of the Parliament to discuss EU topics of interest such as: Multimodality, the Future of Mobility in the EU and Enhancing the Connectivity and Cohesion through the TEN-T Network.

3. AGENDA

 The first session: Multimodality

An overview of evolutions in the field of multimodality in the last four years, including regulations, recommendations, standards and investments.

The second session: The Future of Mobility in the EU

The session focuses on the role of digitalization in the planning and management of a European strategy for sustainable mobility and a better coordination of the Member States’ efforts toward zero emissions mobility. Within this session, Mrs. Grațiela Leocadia Gavrilescu, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Environment, will have a keynote intervention on ”The Long-Term European Union Climate Change Strategy (LTS)”.

The third session: Enhancing the Connectivity and Cohesion through the TEN-T Network

An extended and connected TEN-T Network contributes to the enhancement of territorial cohesion, as well as improving accessibility and connectivity between all EU regions, including peripheral ones. This will stimulate investment, reduce economic growth gaps and ensure transition to an environment-friendly mobility. In this session, ministers will reaffirm their commitments to the implementation of the TEN-T network objectives and deadlines.

The debates will continue on the 28th of March, at the TEN –T & CEF Conference, where over 600 participants are expected.

  1. PRACTICAL INFORMATION

 4.1. ACCREDITATION

– Media access and coverage for press-available events are possible only with accreditation. All accreditations must go through the portal https://accreditation.romania2019.eu/. Late accreditation is available only at the Palace of the Parliament, at the Accreditation Center for the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council: entrance S2 (Bucharest, 2-4 Izvor Street).

Journalists who have their accreditation approval should collect their badges at the Accreditation Center, upon presenting a valid ID or passport.

4.2. MEDIA CENTER

During the reunion, the Media Centre is located in the Palace of Parliament, at the Iuliu Maniu Hall. Live coverage and highlights of the event are provided by the Romanian Television – the official broadcaster of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Journalists will have access to the Palace of the Parliament on 27th of March, 2019 from 07:00 AM. More details are available in the Media Guide at:
