General Affairs Council, 19/03/2019, presidency doorstep – George Ciamba

Agenda highlights

Ministers will hold a policy debate on the multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027. This item will be taken in public session.

Also in public session, the Council is expected to adopt its position on the regulation establishing the instrument for pre-accession assistance (IPA III).  IPA III is a part of the long-term EU budget and supports the enlargement process, while ensuring its complementarity with the general objectives of the EU’s external action.

The Council will continue preparations for the European Council on 21 and 22 March by discussing draft conclusions. It will take stock of the implementation of previous European Council conclusions.

General Affairs Council – Art.50

The Council, in EU27 format, will prepare the meeting of the European Council (Art. 50). On 21 March 2019 the EU27 leaders will discuss the latest developments regarding Brexit.

In preparation for the summit, ministers will exchange views on the state of play and topics related to the ending – on 29 March 2019 – of the two-year period following the UK’s notification of its intention to leave the EU.
