Minister Delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba met with the Spanish State Secretary for European Affairs, Marco Aguiriano, on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, on the margins of the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
The talks addressed the main topics on the European agenda, as the Spanish official inquired about Romania’s stance on these topics, given the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council.
The minister delegate for European affairs outlined the stage if the discussions and the objectives of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council concerning a series of high priority files; the Romanian official emphasised the clear commitment to furthering and concluding the negotiations on as many legislative proposals as possible, by the end of the mandate of the European Parliament.
The talks focussed on developments in the EU Council with respect to contingency measures related to negotiations for the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.
Against this background, the minister delegate for European affairs reiterated the particular importance of maintaining unity among member states concerning the Withdrawal Agreement, as well as the full commitment of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council to continue efforts towards the objectives established and towards protecting the interests of European citizens.
