Meeting of the Minister Delegate for European Affairs, George Ciamba, with the European Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager

The Minister Delegate for European Affairs, George Ciamba, met with the European Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.

On this occasion, the Romanian official presented the priorities of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, highlighting the firm commitment to advancing the European agenda. Against this background, the minister delegate for European affairs outlined the vision of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council concerning the European project. This vision is structured around the idea of cohesion as a shared European value, expressed at all levels: political, through the need of unity among member states; economic, with a view to narrowing the development gaps between states and between regions; and social, important in terms of safeguarding the four main liberties of the EU internal market.

The talks also addressed the competition policies in the field of digital commerce, an essential aspect for supporting innovation. This theme is important for the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, in the light of supporting fields that bring a real added value for both SMEs and consumers.
