The Minister Delegate for European Affairs, George Ciamba, met with Pieter Bult, UNICEF Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in Romania, on January 21, 2019.
The talks addressed issues concerning the rights of the child and the activity of UNICEF in Romania, as well as furthering joint projects in the framework of the cooperation between Romania and UNICEF, in line with the Romania-UNICEF programme of cooperation for 2018-2022.
George Ciamba talked about the actions taken in Romania for promoting and protecting the rights of the child. The Romanian official pointed out that public policies on child protection are in line with the commitments undertaken under the conventions signed by Romania, and fully harmonised with the European and international standards in the field.
The minister delegate for European affairs expressed his conviction that Romania will continue to work with UNICEF so that the rights of the child are respected and protected, so that each child has access to education, protection, social inclusion and a decent life.
The two officials also discussed the manner in which the Romanian authorities and UNICEF can work together on promoting themes related to children and youth throughout the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, including the implementation of the project on “Enhancing children’s participation in decision-making and policy-making processes in the EU”.
On this occasion, the UNICEF representative expressed appreciation for the cooperation in the “Junior Ambassador to the European Union” joint project, conducted in the margin of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council during the first half of 2019, and for the fact the website of the Romanian Presidency has a special section for children, with content written by UNICEF Romania.
